Two Leaves and a Bud!

Origin of the phrase: The finest teas start with just the very small blossoms, the 'two leaves and a bud' of the tea flower. This idea sets the tone of our business.

The finest tea starts with the tea picker; only the young ‘two leaves and bud’ of the tea should be used.

Many believe that, in the critical first steps of producing a fine tea, "coarse plucking", where the third and fourth leaves are picked, can bring an undesirable taint to the tea. The same applies to machine harvested tea.  While tea has many parallels with wine, this is not one of them.  The nature and delicacy of the tender, fresh shoots of the plant do not lend themselves to machine harvesting.

For these reasons, it is believed that the hand picked 'two leaves and a bud' represent the quintensential source for a quality cup of tea.
