Information:
The word
banana derives from the Arabic word for 'finger', for obvious
reasons. The mention of human consumption of the
fruit comes from India, however. Buddhist texts written
as far back as 600 years BC describe people eating them, but it
would be a long time until the fruit was cultivated for
commercial purposes. The first viable banana plantation
was started in China around 200 AD. It would not be until
1502 before the fruit was first cultivated in the Caribbean and
South America by the Portuguese. It was because the sweet
pulpy flavor of bananas blends exceptionally well with Ceylon
tea. Brew yourself a cup and imagine yourself in the
jungles of Brazil or mountains of Ecuador.
Hot tea brewing method:
Bring freshly drawn cold water to just before a boil. Place
1 teaspoon of tea for each cut in the teapot. Pour your hot
water over the leaves. Let steep for 3-7 minutes according to
taste (The longer the steeping time the stronger the
tea).
Iced tea brewing method:
Place 6 teaspoons of tea into a teapot or heat resistant
pitcher. Pour 1 1/4 cups of very hot water over to
tea. Steep for 5 minutes. Pour the tea into your
serving pitcher straining the leaves. Add ice and garnish
and sweeten to taste if desired.
